FAQs

General

What is Artsmark and where can I get more information about it?

Artsmark is a national initiative run by Arts Council England that recognises schools' arts education provision. It encourages schools to raise standards and increase the range of arts provision. You can find out more on this site or by going to www.artsmark.org.uk

I have recently completed a successful arts project and would like to share it with other people. Can LONSAS help?

Yes! Please contact us and we will send you a case study template to fill in, which will then be posted on the site. If you want you can fill in the case study template online and upload images to go with it.  We really want to hear from teachers so do let us know about your projects.

I’ve tried to download a document and the link doesn’t seem to work. How can I get hold of a copy?

If you try links on this site that don’t work do let us know. Pages do get moved and we will do our best to find any publications or documents for you.

Funding

I want to set up an arts education project but I don’t know where to find the money. What do you suggest?

The first place to look is within the school budget. You can check the department and INSET budget along with other sources of money that might have been set aside for projects that meet the school development plan (e.g. for projects involving and benefiting the local community). For a detailed fundraising strategy and information on external funding see our Funding pages. If you do decide to try and raise funding externally it is worthwhile checking first with your LEA arts officer to make sure that you are not duplicating an application that has already been submitted.

Can LONSAS fund any projects?

No. LONSAS is not a funding body but we can help you find suitable funders. See the pages on Funding for information on the various funding bodies, and other ways in which to fundraise.

Registration

I have registered but not heard anything back. Does this mean I am not registered?

If you have not been sent a password it is because your email address is incorrect. Please contact us to sort it out. We can amend your email address and send you your password.

What are the benefits of registering with LONSAS?

When you register you are issued with a username (your email address) and password so that you can log in next time you visit the site. Benefits include your own pages where you can keep your favourite artists, details of any campaigns, case studies and events you have submitted and more.  You will also receive email news bulletins to keep you up to date with the latest opportunities and events, and alerts to when new sections appear on the LONSAS site.

I have registered with LONSAS but I want to change my password – how can I do this?

You can change your password to something easily remembered the next time you log in. Simply fill in your user name and password and then go to the ‘change details’ screen. Here you can assign a new password and alter your details.

Artists

What should an artist’s contract include?

For a list of points that an artist’s contract could include please see our pages on contracting artists in Create a Project/Setting up a project. There you will find lots of advice including areas to cover at interview as well as a model contract. There are also some useful publications that have further information.

When I search for an artist to come and work in my school no results are found. How can I get a list of artists?

If no artists appear when you try the Arts Directory it might be because your search criteria are too narrow. Try searching on fewer categories. The Directory is still being developed and new artists and arts organisations are being added all the time.

Resources

How can I change an entry in the resources section?

If you are from an organisation and wish to update an entry in our resources section (websites, publications etc) then please send us an email with any updated copy or additional information.
