Rambert Dance Company

Based in London. Available to work in these Local Authorities

London. Available to work in Hounslow, Lambeth, Southwark.

As Britain's largest, flagship contemporary dance company, Rambert Dance Company aims to present a diverse range of dance to UK and international audiences. Rambert Dance Company aspires to be one of the world's most versatile and exciting dance companies and is committed to increasing the audience for contemporary dance by pursuing a policy of innovation, excellence and access across all its performances and education work.

Rambert Dance Company was founded in 1926 by the Polish dancer and teacher Marie Rambert. Alongside her artistic vision for Rambert, the role of education was very important; she wanted her Company to develop new choreographers, dancers and audiences.

Rambert Education today continues this tradition and is committed to sharing the vision and the artistry of the Company with its local and touring communities. Dance is a social activity and an excellent vehicle for promoting health and a healthier lifestyle. Through pre and after school, youth, family and elders programmes Rambert makes face to face contact with the general public. It provides opportunities for people to engage with the Company and have a physical experience of dance, it supports artistic and creative adventure and meets and talks with its audiences.

CRB Disclosure

All personnel (and freelancers/artists) within the organisation who work directly with children and young people have had either a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure check within the last three years and can provide evidence of this on request.

CRB checks DO NOT relieve you from your child protection responsibilities and duty of care towards children and young people.

A criminal record shown on a disclosure does not prevent an artist appearing in the Directory, unless it is a schedule One offence under the Children and Young Person’s Act 1933. It is your responsibility to make adequate checks before employing LONSAS Associates and to implement a sufficient child protection policy. Click here for further information.

Project 1

Moved
Moved is a brand new dance development project for Rambert and is supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation for three years. Taking place in five Lambeth secondary schools – Bishop Thomas Grant, Charles Edward Brooke, Lilian Baylis, Norwood School for Girls and Stockwell Park – the project launches each autumn with an introductory workshop and a trip to see the Company perform at Sadler’s Wells. A programme of creative dance workshops and teacher INSET runs during the spring term.
The first project ran November 2005 to March 2006 and focused on Rafael Bonachela’s Curious Conscience (2005). The young people – all Key Stage 3 – worked towards a performance of their choreography at the Lambeth Academy which was attended by friends, family and staff from the schools.
Inspired by the scientific ideas in Mark Baldwin's Constant Speed a similar project, Transform, has recently run in four Lambeth primary schools - Elm Wood, Loughborough, Reay and St John’s Angell Town.

Project 2

Creative Academy; Slough
July 2005 marked Rambert Education’s first collaboration with Creative Academy Slough. The two week choreographic residency with young dancers in 2005 was very successful and the piece has since been toured in the region and to Finland.
For July 2006 the residency will see Rambert collaborate with Flitz, a hip hop dancer and choreographer from America who works with indpendance, London.
The young dancers will work for two weeks with both contemporary and hip hop dance styles to create a piece that fuses both movement vocabularies and looks at human relationships.
